AS Treatment
https://prezi.com/bn4znkycb27n/untitled-prezi/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy

This is for our presentation in the lesson today. We have used this to display our ideas to the rest of the class.

‘The trailer for The Conjuring is scarier than most horror features of recent vintage, and the feature makes good on the promise’

This is a similar film ethic to what we have chosen and also quite recent so we can understand what the target audience likes to see.

However on the same website someone said
‘There's nothing new or original about it, but it's entertaining enough, and one can't help but respect the craft that went into making something catchy out of component parts stolen from others.’

So we can see that ours might have to include something that makes it stand out.

Media Coursework

Genre -
Genre is very important within the success of a new movie, we have chosen the movie genre of horror because it is a very widely seen and used genre and also has a great opportunity of creativity. However, some secondary research that my group found out is that people get bored of just pure horror and enjoy the sub-genres within it. So as a group we have chosen to do a horror opening with the sub-genre of demonic. This will be a film opening like the conjuring etc.

Target Audience -
The target audience is very important to a horror movie because horror can appeal to everyone around the world, however it has to make sure its within the guidelines so everyone can film it. If we got the wrong target audience and gave them the wrong movie opening it would get bad reviews.

Questions for primary research -

  1. What do you think of the genre horror yourself? Would you choose to watch it.
  2. What is your favorite sub-genre within?
  3. What images do you expect to see in horror openings?
  4. What is your favorite horror movie?
  5. What would make you watch a horror movie?
  6. Do you like possession horror movies?
  7. Where would you expect to see a horror movie located?
  8. What is the most interesting victim in the horror movie?

Location shots
Graveyard -
This shot has been chosen because we all agreed it had elements of horror in it, for example the grave stones. Also this will be a very good shot opportunity with maximum light if needed.

Stairs leading down to basement-
We have chosen this location because it has a spooky atmosphere but also has good lighting, so would be much easier to film in.

Stairs going up to Skipwith Tower

Spiral Staircase in Skipwith Tower -
good lighting and also includes crucial aspects of horror movies, this could make people wonder what is at the top or bottom of the stairs

Low ceiling room in Skipwith Tower -
This has a very scary atmosphere and also we would be able to put lighting in here.

Woods down at the river -

Road leading to church/graveyard -
we chose here because we probably need some sort of establishing shot leading up to the action.

PRELIMINARY TASK
What are we evaluating?
Has continuity been followed?
Is match on action, 180 degree rule, S-RS(shot reverse-shot) used effectively?
Is the sound effective? Can dialogue be heard?
Is the camera controlled? Is there suitable variety of shots?
Where can improvements be made in the future?

Evaluation -
Effective use of match on action - e.g. the door.
Follows the 180 degree rule.
smaller rooms allow for high quality of recording.
The shots were shot quite quickly, film more footage for each angle and more accurate cutting of dialogue between characters.
When the hand is on the door, follow through on the action you are doing, don't start with the frame on his hand.
Continuity error of the door being open and then closed in one shot after another.
